Intrinsic Therapeutics is committed to providing standardized continuing education that enhances participant competence, performance, and patient outcomes. The purpose of Intrinsic’s medical education program is to:

  • Improve health and patient care through evidence-based educational activities
  • Offer an educational algorithm enabling the best possible clinical outcomes
  • Standardize patient selection and surgical technique when considering Barricaid® Anular Closure

VISITING SURGEON PROGRAM

The Company has established clinical Centers of Excellence where surgeons are trained on all aspects of the Barricaid surgical procedure through a standardized Visiting Surgeon Program, with enhanced focus on surgical observation in a real-time OR setting.

INSTRUCTIONAL COURSE

The Instructional Course offers both theoretical and practical training, where the Surgeon Trainee is provided with a detailed understanding of Barricaid patient indication, surgical technique, and expected clinical outcomes, followed by a hands-on lab using either cadaveric specimens or the RealSpine discectomy simulator.
Our headquarters facility near Boston, MA holds a unique in-house cadaver lab facility. Surgeon training takes place on carefully screened cadaveric specimens in order to best represent the target patient population.

FLYING DOCTOR PROGRAM

The Flying Doctor Program allows for on-site training at the hospital location of the Surgeon Trainee(s). The training is conducted by an experienced Barricaid surgeon, who is involved in the Company’s Medical Education Program. Surgeon trainee(s) will receive a comprehensive theoretical module on patient indication, surgical technique, and expected clinical outcomes with the Barricaid, followed by live surgery and/or the Barricaid RealSpine Simulation technology.

REALSPINE IN-HOSPITAL TRAINING

The RealSpine simulator offers the surgeons a realistic surgical experience, when practicing the Barricaid implantation procedure. The surgeon is dealing with all realistic anatomical structures, nerve structures and soft tissues, including an intraoperative controllable bleeding system.
As the Barricaid instrumentation has been made navigable, the fluoroscopic guidance can be simulated during training, and thus avoiding the need for radiation exposure.
